ARTIST BIO:

"You could drive a truck through the grove in Debra Lyn's music" ~ Len Osland

I heard KoKo Taylor sing the blues when I was 30. It changed everything for me. I picked up the guitar and taught myself to play. Writing songs came naturally from within. The traditional Blues lyrics to me are a surreal
language. They conjure images of the musicians' lives in the early years where the blues began. Songwriting and guitar player inspirations include Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bonnie Raitt and Barbara Lynn to mention a few. I was born in a then small town on the Prairies of Southern Manitoba. I spent years running cross country and doing my art. I moved to Winnipeg to be closer to the music I love and the musicians who share my love for the Blues. I was honored to be asked by John Scoles (Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club) to record a song for the "Tribute to Big Dave". "We best choose to pick the Blues" I chose "Sweet Della Jones" a song Big Dave wrote for Muddy Waters Grandma.

I've spent many years on the road touring across parts of Canada, playing festivals, house concerts and bars as a solo, duo, trio or together with my band.
With dark little turnarounds on the guitar, Debra Lyn's voice creates a musical elixir of whiskey and honey.

"It's all there. There's Blues going on" ~ Gord Kidder

ABOUT HOME ROUTES:

Winnipeg based non-profit organization Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous was initiated by the founders of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the West End Cultural Centre, Mitch Podolak and Ava Kobrinsky, alongside, Tim Osmond with a start-up grant from Canada Council For The Arts. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Leonard Podolak, the organization operates with a full staff alongside the support of a nationally based volunteer Board of Directors.

Our organization was created to champion artists and volunteer concert hosts  in communities nationwide. This has grown into a group of people and organization of almost 200, who each host 6 shows a year in houses and small halls in their communities

In recent years we have expanded our mandate to include a series of Community Workshops and Jam Groups, and in 2018 we founded the Winnipeg Crankie Festival, which is a participatory and collaborative event celebrating 18th century Moving Panoramas.
